Thorn in my Heart
I’ll be straight with you. (I feel you’ve earned it…) I hate being single. There’s a part of my genetic makeup that just abhors not dating anyone, not planning a wedding or spending time with that special someone. It’s in my DNA, I believe, and therefore is a thorn in my heart.
Paul had a thorn in his flesh. Different commentators speculate as to what it was. Some say that it was poor eyesight, but truth be told, I don’t think it matters what it was. If it mattered, Paul would have made mention of it. (Read what Paul has to say about it in 2 Corinthians 12:1-10)
Paul says that the thorn in his flesh draws him closer to God. I would have to agree. My singleness makes me closer to Jesus because I can’t handle the emotional rollercoaster alone. I may be dramatic, but I don’t handle “drama” well, especially when it involves my heart.
So if you struggle with being single, like me, rest assured that God not only enjoys when you come to Him (see study below), but He uses the drama of our hearts to draw us closer to Him, if we’ll only follow after Him.
I’ve heard it said that any thing or circumstance that causes us to forget about God is a bad one, but that any thing or circumstance that causes us to go to God in prayer is a good one.
When you hurt, go to God. Don’t let the hurt be for nothing. Let God take it and use it for something good.
